That is where it has been for the past six months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The ship was expected to leave in May, but then an issue was <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2025-03-02\/spirit-of-tasmania-iv-returning-to-tasmania-from-scotland\/105000316\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/105000316\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">detected with its liquid natural gas (LNG) system.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Finnish shipbuilder Rauma Marine Construction has managed to modify the system, and the ship has been undertaking sea trials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">On Sunday, Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff revealed the ferry would be expected to leave Scotland and make its way to Australia in 10 days&#8217; time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">He said the journey would take about six weeks, with the predicted arrival in August.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"EmphasisedText_quote__TE6kn\"><p>&#8220;We welcome the fact that Spirit IV will commence its journey for the first time to Tasmania within 10 days,&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>  Mr Rockliff said.<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Spirit of Tasmania IV ship in port.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/d5a4a03171f5904a2fe545ea886c9447\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">The journey will take about six weeks, with the predicted arrival in August. (BBC\/Eurovision)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The ship will head to Hobart where it will receive final fit-outs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Its berth in Devonport is not expected to be completed until at least October 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">It is unclear what will happen to the ferry until it can be used to transport passengers between Tasmania and the mainland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The ship is one of two new ferries that were built in Finland. (Supplied: Dennis Conaghan)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;All up there&#8217;s 50,000 tonnes of carbon emissions to be saved by switching to LNG,&#8221; Mr Lipski said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;The vessels are covered by safeguard mechanisms \u2026 [that] means the vessels must reduce emissions now and by 2030 be 43 per cent from where they are now.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"EmphasisedText_quote__TE6kn\"><p>&#8220;There&#8217;s just no other way this can be achieved unless LNG is adopted.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Mr Lipski said his company had the capital and technical knowledge to take on the project, it just needed an agreement with ferry operator TT-Line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;We need to build infrastructure and we need to build it now,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;It&#8217;s almost two years to build this.
