{"id":482971,"date":"2025-12-31T18:33:22","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T18:33:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/482971\/"},"modified":"2025-12-31T18:33:22","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T18:33:22","slug":"the-la-art-show-will-spotlight-sylvester-stallone-and-the-clashs-paul-simonons-work-daily-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/482971\/","title":{"rendered":"The LA Art Show will spotlight Sylvester Stallone and The Clash\u2019s Paul Simonon\u2019s work \u2013 Daily News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2016\/01\/09\/focus-we-take-a-look-back-at-sylvester-stallones-film-career\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sylvester Stallone<\/a> is best known for throwing knockout punches in \u201cRocky\u201d and single-handedly taking down armies in \u201cRambo,\u201d but in the actor\u2019s spare time, he\u2019s more of a painter than a fighter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people in the art world aren\u2019t aware of his other passion,\u201d said Kassandra Voyagis, director and producer of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynews.com\/2025\/02\/12\/la-art-show-brings-art-from-around-the-world-to-downtown-los-angeles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LA Art Show<\/a>, during a recent phone interview. \u201cHe actually painted before he was an actor and has six decades of artwork. It\u2019s interesting how much it\u2019s evolved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Voyagis said Stallone\u2019s work has grown more abstract since his early painting days, when the style was more figurative. The artwork is being transported from Provident Fine Art in Palm Beach, Florida, and Voyagis said some of the paintings are larger than one might expect compared to the others shown in the gallery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynews.com\/2025\/02\/12\/la-art-show-brings-art-from-around-the-world-to-downtown-los-angeles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LA Art Show brings art from around the world to downtown Los Angeles<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Stallone\u2019s artworks will also be featured at the LA Art Show, happening Jan. 8-11 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Other highlights of the event include U.K. galleries by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocregister.com\/2012\/05\/24\/paul-simon-isnt-the-only-legend-planning-a-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul Simonon of The Clash<\/a> and Chris Rivers of Heaven\u2019s Basement.<\/p>\n<p>Simonon\u2019s artwork is making its West Coast debut and will showcase biker-era pieces that highlight his deep connection to motorcycling and the 1950s British rock-and-roll and cafe-racer culture. That era was a pivotal influence on Simonon\u2019s iconic punk style, leading him to sport leather and boots in The Clash. (Photo courtesy of La Art Show)\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\" class=\"icon-enlarge mng-gallery-fullscreen-expand\" aria-label=\"Expand fullscreen slideshow\">Expand<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rivers\u2019 collection, which features astrological paintings inspired by each zodiac sign, has been well received in London, so Voyagis was excited to showcase it at this year\u2019s event. His work combines scientific star charts with astrological symbolism and zodiac landscapes. Rivers\u2019 Zodiac Starmaps and Landscapes feature 24-carat gold for an extra shine. The starmaps include a silver leaf, and the earth signs in the collection include a copper leaf in tune with their elemental nature. The Zodiac Landscapes features Rivers\u2019 signature astronaut inhabiting the worlds beneath constellation-filled skies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t like doing the same thing over and over,\u201d Voyagis said. \u201cI like bringing something different for people to see every year, and that\u2019s what makes every show so fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The LA Art Show is also introducing the Latin American Pavilion, led by curator Marisa Caichiolo, which aims to spotlight emerging artists from other regions of the American continent. See it in Pasadena.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The pavilion will focus on memory, migration and identity, which hopes to engage in a deep exploration of ancestral themes of power dynamics and artist representation within the gallery system. It invites audiences to reconsider provenance, belonging, the evolving future of Latin American art and how it resonates across borders. Some of the artworks will feature artists such as M\u00f3nica Arreola from Mexico, Joaqu\u00edn Vargas from Argentina, M\u00e1ximo Corval\u00e1n Pincheira from Chile and Carolina Bazo from Per\u00fa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a moment when immigration issues continue to disproportionately impact Latin American communities, it is especially important to provide a platform for these artists,\u201d said Caichiolo in a press statement. \u201cTheir perspectives are vital to a more complete and equitable understanding of contemporary art, yet they remain underrepresented at major fairs. This pavilion seeks to amplify their voices and affirm the cultural and creative contributions of Latin America on the global stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other unique art pieces at the LA Art Show this year include works by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/esthermahlanguart\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Esther Mahlangu<\/a>, a visual artist and cultural ambassador of the Ndebele nation. Mahlangu, a 90-year-old artist, has created unique pottery designs featuring vibrant colors for over eight decades and is one of the few internationally recognized African women artists of her generation.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the other international artists showcased include Switzerland\u2019s LICHT FELD Gallery, which will present the first public showing in more than 40 years of Karl A. Meyer\u2019s woodcut prints, created during his transformative 1980s period on New York\u2019s Crosby Street, also marking the first time they\u2019ve been shown on the West Coast.<\/p>\n<p>Corridor Contemporary will showcase internationally renowned Israeli artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yigalozeri.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yigal Ozeri<\/a>, celebrated for his large-scale, cinematic portraits of young women set against lush, evocative landscapes. The show will also feature a strong Korean presence, with 15 participating galleries, including J&amp;J Art, which is presenting \u201cElegant Freedom\u201d by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jinnysuh.art\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jinny Suh<\/a>.
