The scene of this year\u2019s KWANZAA events convened at the St Johns Lutheran Church located in the West Springfield neighborhood of Jacksonville. The 12th annual event was hosted by Ms. Dreaka Arnae of Dignified Virtue Steam Center.<\/p>\n

Focusing on the third principle \u201cUjima,\u201d panelists elaborated on the principles collective work and responsibility definition. The audience was open to the dialogue of the Kwanzaa message and interpretation. \u201cThis is where the village comes in for our community,\u201d said attendee Kayla Johns.<\/p>\n

Held December 26th \u2013 January 1st, the weekly celebration highlights African Swahili grammar that describes the following seven principles: Umoja (Unity); Kujichagulia (Self-determination<\/a>);\u00a0Ujima\u00a0(Collective work and responsibility);\u00a0Ujamaa<\/a>\u00a0(Cooperative economics<\/a>);\u00a0Nia\u00a0(Purpose);\u00a0Kuumba\u00a0(Creativity) and\u00a0\u00a0Imani\u00a0(Faith).<\/p>\n
