{"id":483361,"date":"2025-12-31T22:31:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T22:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/483361\/"},"modified":"2025-12-31T22:31:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T22:31:09","slug":"north-bay-man-charged-with-impaired-driving-after-opp-traffic-stop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/483361\/","title":{"rendered":"North Bay man charged with impaired driving after OPP traffic stop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;Upon speaking with the driver, officers confirmed cannabis consumption,&#8217; police stated in a release<\/p>\n<p>A North Bay man faces a couple of impaired driving charges following a traffic stop by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday at around 1 p.m., officers say they noticed a vehicle idling in a commercial lot off Highway 11 near McKeown Avenue in North Bay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe driver appeared to be smoking cannabis,\u201d OPP stated in a release. \u201cUpon speaking with the driver, officers confirmed cannabis consumption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The driver, 41-year-old <strong>Martin Funnell<\/strong>, was arrested and taken to the North Bay OPP detachment for further testing. During a search of the vehicle, officers say they also seized unsealed cannabis and unmarked cigarettes.<\/p>\n<p>He has been charged with:<\/p>\n<ul>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>Operation while impaired \u2013 drugs<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>Operation while impaired \u2013 blood drug concentration<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>Driving with cannabis readily available<\/li>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<li>Possession of unmarked cigarettes<\/li>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/ul>\n<p>See: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baytoday.ca\/local-news\/tougher-impaired-driving-penalties-starting-2026-11648255\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Tougher impaired driving penalties starting 2026<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Funnell<\/strong> was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in North Bay\u2019s Ontario Court of Justice on Feb. 3, 2026.
