Urban forests are a thing of beauty \u2014 not just in terms of enhancing urban design but serving the practical purposes of filtering air and water, energy conservation and providing habitats for animals displaced by urban sprawl. <\/p>\n

The logistics of creating green spaces aren\u2019t insurmountable, but they do require commitment from professionals and the community at large. Basic skills such as proper pruning methods and hands-on training with tools and techniques from certified arborists are equally essential. <\/p>\n

An event this Sunday called the Tree Buds Citizen Forester Orientation Session promises to teach the \u201chows\u201d and \u201cwhys\u201d of those techniques and how they directly benefit our urban canopy. This orientation is the first step to joining monthly volunteer sessions, which run on the first Saturday of each month from October through May. <\/p>\n
