Any hope of the Seattle Seahawks putting safety and special teams standout D\u2019Anthony Bell back on the practice squad was squashed by the team they just defeated last week.<\/p>\n

The Carolina Panthers claimed Bell off of waivers on Wednesday, a day after Seattle waived Bell<\/a> to make room for the return of Derick Hall. Bell has been with the Seahawks all season after signing as a free agent from the Cleveland Browns in the offseason. He\u2019s been back-and-forth between the practice squad and active roster, recording a half-sack and a blocked punt along the way.<\/p>\n

Bell is the fourth Seahawks player claimed off waivers this season. Cornerback Derion Kendrick returned to the Los Angeles Rams, safety Jerick Reed II went to the Tennessee Titans, and the Green Bay Packers claimed defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna, although Bohanna is a free agent again after he was let go by Green Bay.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s an interesting situation for Bell as the regular season comes to a close. Without a waiver claim, he could\u2019ve been on the cusp of a first-round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Instead, the Panthers need either a win on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or an Atlanta Falcons win over the New Orleans Saints to win the NFC South or extend their postseason drought to eight seasons.<\/p>\n

If the Seahawks are in need of safety depth with Coby Bryant still injured, perhaps veteran Quandre Diggs is ready to return from his own injury while still on the practice squad.<\/p>\n
