And it\u2019s now one step closer to reality."},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">City officials have approved plans for what would be the third-tallest building in San Francisco, planning department records show.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">The housing project at 10 South Van Ness Ave., at the intersection of Market Street, would replace the events venue SVN West with a 820-foot, 67-story tower containing 1,019 homes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">Construction is expected to begin by the end of 2026. The project may take three and a half years to complete and cost just under $1 billion, according to Adam Tartakovsky, managing director of Miami-based developer Crescent Heights.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">The Planning Department approved the project on Dec. 17, according to chief of staff Dan Sider. Its proximity to <a href=\"https:\/\/sfstandard.com\/2025\/10\/29\/san-francisco-neighborhood-lower-hayes-haight-mission-mid-market-soma\/\" data-post-id=\"7ec5caf8-00b7-407a-bc7b-269d77828c16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hayes Valley and Civic Center<\/a> also makes it an attractive place to build, he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">Adding a few thousand residents to an area brings more vibrancy, Tartakovsky said. \u201cIt\u2019s a bit of a renaissance,\u201d he added. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of promise here. We think the neighborhood is really going to come into its own.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">He declined to comment on the project\u2019s financing but said funding would be secured by the time construction is planned to begin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">For years, San Francisco has <a href=\"https:\/\/sfstandard.com\/2024\/09\/15\/sf-is-cutting-deals-to-unfreeze-housing-but-developers-have-to-do-their-part-too\" data-post-id=\"cce6a266-ffcc-4231-9271-6e73b9613b80\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">worked with developers<\/a> to encourage large-scale housing projects. In 2023, Crescent Heights received a four-year extension to secure city approval for its plans.
