(Photo by Chris Stone\/Times of San Diego)<\/p>\n<p>A deep sinkhole Wednesday temporarily closed a prominent intersection in the middle of Coronado.<\/p>\n<p>The 5-foot-deep sinkhole located near the intersection of Orange and Fourth avenues was reported to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coronado.ca.us\/1043\/Police\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coronado Police Department<\/a> about 9:20 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Police said officers diverted traffic around the sinkhole, which blocked a lane on Fourth Avenue in the middle of the island city, which is connected to the mainland by the Coronado Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the sinkhole was unclear.<\/p>\n<p>Water department crews were on the scene by 10 a.m. Wednesday, sparking speculation a broken water main may have led to the fissure.<\/p>\n<p>All lanes of traffic were reopened by 11 p.m., according to Caltrans.<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT\n\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Coronado police officer.
