{"id":484838,"date":"2026-01-01T13:48:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-01T13:48:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/484838\/"},"modified":"2026-01-01T13:48:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-01T13:48:11","slug":"learning-to-run-again-caitlin-clarks-agonizing-return-from-injury-laid-bare-with-brutal-admission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/484838\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Learning to run again&#8217; &#8211; Caitlin Clark&#8217;s agonizing return from injury laid bare with brutal admission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When it comes to basketball, Caitlin Clark has not had it easy in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/topic\/wnba\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">WNBA<\/a> star offered some insight into her long and gruelling road to recovery after <a aria-label=\"enduring a 2025 season full of injuries  (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/basketball\/3461779\/wnba-caitlin-clark-crowds-indiana-fever-sue-bird\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">enduring a 2025 season full of injuries <\/a>and setbacks, which resulted in her playing just 13 games for the <a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/topic\/indiana-fever\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">Indiana Fever<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"New Heights podcast: Travis and Jason Kelce with Caitlin Clark\" height=\"403\" width=\"720\" data-credit=\"New Heights Podcast\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/NINTCHDBPICT001048734406.jpg\" data-caption=\"Caitlin Clark spared no detail about her injury return when talking to Travis and Jason Kelce\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/NINTCHDBPICT001048734406.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>3<\/p>\n<p>Caitlin Clark spared no detail about her injury return when talking to Travis and Jason KelceCredit: New Heights Podcast<\/p>\n<p>Clark revealed on the New Heights Podcast, hosted by Jason and <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/who\/travis-kelce\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">Travis Kelce<\/a>, that as a result of her <a aria-label=\"groin and quad issues (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/basketball\/3413315\/wnba-caitlin-clark-injury-officials-indiana-fever-statement-sky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">groin and quad issues<\/a>, she was forced to relearn how to run. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So,\u00a0it\u00a0was\u00a0just\u00a0obviously\u00a0a\u00a0long\u00a0and,\u00a0like,\u00a0tough\u00a0year\u00a0of\u00a0recurring injuries.\u00a0And\u00a0you\u00a0guys\u00a0know\u00a0how\u00a0that\u00a0goes,&#8221; she began.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u00a0was\u00a0a\u00a0long\u00a0process\u00a0to just\u00a0get\u00a0back\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0court.\u00a0Because when\u00a0you\u00a0have the\u00a0groins\u00a0and\u00a0the quads\u00a0and whatever\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0dealing\u00a0with,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0like\u00a0you\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0run\u00a0for\u00a0a\u00a0while.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So,\u00a0like,\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0weird,\u00a0like,\u00a0learning\u00a0to\u00a0run\u00a0again\u00a0in\u00a0a\u00a0way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE WNBA<\/p>\n<p>Clark first got injured in May, which forced her to sit out of the Fever&#8217;s preseason game before suffering an injury to her left quad four games into the new season, that ruled her out for a further five games.<\/p>\n<p>She returned on June 14 but it wasn&#8217;t long before a groin injury ruled her out of action.<\/p>\n<p>There was time for more return having got back onto the court on July 9, but a week later she suffered an injury in the last minute of the game against the <a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/topic\/phoenix-suns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">Phoenix Suns<\/a> and that would be the last game of her sophomore season.<\/p>\n<p>After a spectacular rookie year, Clark would not play a single game more in 2025, and would still suffer setbacks along the way.<\/p>\n<p>As in August, during rehab for her groin injury, she suffered mild bone bruising.<\/p>\n<p>It was not until September that the Indiana Fever publicly announced that <a aria-label=\"they were shutting down her season. (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/basketball\/3814734\/caitlin-clark-wnba-indiana-fever-team-usa-angel-reese\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer noopener\">being called into the Team USA camp in early December. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wouldn&#8217;t have wanted it any other way than to get thrown back out there with the best players in the world,&#8221; Clark said of the three-day training camp at Duke University in Durham, N.C.<\/p>\n<p>This was the first time she had made it into the senior camp and marked her return to full basketball activities in a competitive environment. <\/p>\n<p>Clark revealed that one of her major goals is to be on the Olympic team for Los Angeles in 2028, as well as the next major international competition &#8211; the FIBA Women&#8217;s World Cup in Germany in September 2026.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hopefully I&#8217;m on the team for (the World Cup),&#8221; Clark said as the US prepare to add to the 11 World Cup titles they have won, including each of the last four, and six of the last seven.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My goal is to be on the Olympic team in 2028.
