A Treaty Oak Revival concert is a little more than that. Sure, Sam Canty and his bandmates play many of the songs that have contributed to their star rise in short order, from West Texas cover band to an absolute supernova in the country-rock ranks. And, yeah, people sing along.<\/p>\n
The show itself, however, is more akin to an experience than a garden variety live music show. New Year\u2019s Eve at the Toyota Center on Wednesday night was no exception.<\/p>\n
Treaty Oak blasted into 2026 with a 20-song, 90-minute set that spanned the quintet\u2019s three-album catalog, most notably, November\u2019s West Texas Degenerate, which has helped elevate the band from honky-tonks and opening slots to arena headliners.<\/p>\n
If New Year\u2019s Eve was any indication, they\u2019re up to the task.<\/p>\n
Canty and crew jumped right in with a crowd favorite (\u201cHave a Nice Day\u201d) before moving into more popular (\u201cMissed Call\u201d) and newer fare (\u201cWest Texas Degenerate\u201d). Crafting a setlist on the heels of a new album is no easy feat; you have to mix the old with the new and keep the crowd engaged.<\/p>\n
Fortunately, Treaty Oak\u2019s new album is as strong as their first two, so tracks like \u201cMisery,\u201d \u201cWithdrawals\u201d and \u201cDosin\u201d fit right in alongside stalwarts such as \u201cIn Between,\u201d \u201cNo Vacancy\u201d and the show-closing (and riotous) \u201cSee You in Court.\u201d<\/p>\n
Treaty Oak has launched a 2026 nationwide tour in support of West Texas Degenerate, and while no Houston area dates are currently on the bill, here\u2019s hoping that changes in short order. If New Year\u2019s Even was any indication, its local fans want even more.<\/p>\n
Overheard in the Crowd<\/strong>: Well, for starters, a ton of young people were singing along to Creed\u2019s \u201cOne Last Breath,\u201d which played between Green and Treaty Oak\u2019s sets. Who knew my high school years were back in such a big way? \u2026 Otherwise, nothing much heard, but seen. If you\u2019re gonna attend a Treaty Oak show, either wear a raincoat or something you don\u2019t mind getting messy, as the drinks are flying in the crowd all night long!<\/p>\n So, How was the Opener?<\/strong>: William Clark Green is a rising star unto himself. The Texas Tech grad was quite excited to prop up his Red Raiders, who play in today\u2019s big Orange Bowl game against Oregon, and he even joined Treaty Oak on stage for its rendition of \u201cWest Texas Degenerate,\u201d which Green co-wrote.<\/p>\n Random Notebook Dump<\/strong>: The concert got off to the right start, as Miami upset Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl minutes before Treaty Oak took the stage. That didn\u2019t exactly upset those who ducked into the concourse to watch the fourth quarter \u2026 \u201cOde to Bourbon\u201d is the best and most poignant Treaty Oak song by a mile, but \u201cSunflower\u201d certainly makes a run at it \u2026 Props to the parents in front of us, who definitely were NOT Treaty Oak fans, who braved the show to support their daughters, who definitely WERE Treaty Oak fans. It\u2019s all about family at the holidays \u2026 Bumping the show back a little to play into the actual new year was a nice touch, and the countdown to 2026 was well done. <\/p>\n Setlist<\/strong>:
