Waters endorses JSO Commander Deborah Wesley for city council at-large seat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 A Republican and 34-year veteran of the JSO, Deborah Wesley is seeking to replace outgoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonville.gov\/city-council\/city-council-members\/al1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonville.gov\/city-council\/city-council-members\/al1\">Council Member Terrance Freeman<\/a>, who is term-limited.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to a press release, a Jacksonville native, Wesley began her law enforcement career in 1991. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Over the years, she has served in multiple roles, including officer, sergeant, lieutenant, and internal affairs investigator. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">She was appointed to the JSO command staff by Sheriff T.K. Waters and currently serves as a one-star commander in the Department of Corrections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI\u2019m running because Jacksonville deserves strong, experienced and principled leadership that listens, protects taxpayers and delivers real results,\u201d Wesley said. \u201cThis city has given me everything\u2014and I\u2019m ready to give back in an even greater way on the City Council.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI realized that public service is a calling,\u201d Wesley said. \u201cI\u2019ve been serving our community in the Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office for over 34 years now. I\u2019ll be retiring soon, and I just believe that God is calling me to serve in a greater capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">If elected, Wesley would be the first JSO veteran in decades to serve on the City Council. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Wesley has also been active in the community for more than 18 years, mentoring and coaching youth in local athletic programs and serving in ministry at New Life Evangelistic Center as director of the women\u2019s ministry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Sheriff Waters praised her candidacy, saying, \u201cDeborah Wesley will bring the discipline, command presence and sense of duty we need at City Hall.
