An investigation is underway after a child suffered from a gunshot wound to their foot on Thursday, according to the Philadelphia Police Department. <\/p>\n

The incident unfolded just before 5 p.m. inside a home on the 900 block of North 42nd Street in West Philadelphia on Jan. 1, according to Chief Inspector Scott Small. <\/p>\n

A 3-year-old boy showed up to a hospital with his father suffering from a gunshot wound to his foot, Small said. The hospital alerted police who then went to the house where the shooting happened. <\/p>\n

There, they found a semi-automatic handgun and a small amount of blood in a back bedroom of the house’s first-floor apartment, Small explained. <\/p>\n

The 3-year-old boy lives at the home with his father and his father’s girlfriend who were all at the house when the gun went off, according to Small. <\/p>\n

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital by his father and is currently listed in stable condition, Small said. <\/p>\n

Investigators do not know yet know what led to the gun being fired, but do believe this was an accidental shooting, Small told NBC10. <\/p>\n

SkyForce10 was over the scene around 5:30 p.m. where several police cars could be seen outside of rowhomes. <\/p>\n
