(The Australian Reinforcing Company)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">A spokesperson for Tasmania&#8217;s Department of State Growth said the improvements would occur in the near future.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"EmphasisedText_quote__TE6kn\"><p>&#8220;Designs are well underway to refine the shape of the barrier and improve safety for all users of the bridge&#8217;s pathways,&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>  the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Targeted consultation has already occurred and we will be seeking broader public feedback on the designs for the bridge pathways and barrier designs in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;Pending the outcome of that consultation, construction is targeted to start later in 2025 and be complete in late 2026.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Improvements to build on 2016 report<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The 2016 report made seven recommendations, including the installation of additional camera surveillance and an assessment of the effectiveness of telephones and signage on the bridge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Police attend an average of 195 &#8220;concern for welfare&#8221; incidents per year on the bridge, and there are an average of 2.6 deaths by suicide per year \u2014 about 3 per cent of total suicides in Tasmania.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2024-09-24\/tasman-bridge-pathways-widening-plans-scrapped\/104385528\" data-component=\"FullBleedLink\" class=\"RelatedCard_link__rsgR9 FullBleedLink_root__lTw_U interactive_focusContext__yRhc_ interactive_defaults__AKxUU FullBleedLink_showVisited__g3Xvz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tasman Bridge pathway widening proposal scrapped<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP RelatedCard_synopsis__cFwMW Typography_sizeMobile14__u7TGe Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Two years ago, the Tasmanian government released concept designs for wider pathways for pedestrians and cyclists on the Tasman Bridge.
