HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — If you think Houston traffic is bad, there is now data to prove it. The Texas A&M Transportation Institute recently released its list of Top 100 Congested Road Segments in the state.<\/p>\n
The Houston metro is home to seven of the 10 most congested corridors in Texas.<\/p>\n
1. West Loop from I-10 Katy to the Southwest Freeway<\/p>\n
2. Eastex freeway from SH-288 to I-10
3. Woodall Rodgers freeway from US-75 to North Beckley Avenue<\/p>\n
4. Southwest freeway from the West Loop to SH-288<\/p>\n
5. North Loop from I-45 North to I-10 Katy<\/p>\n
6. I-10 Katy from the West Loop to I-45<\/p>\n
7. I-45 Gulf freeway from I-10 to the South Loop<\/p>\n
8. I-45 from SH-183 to I-30<\/p>\n
9. I-35 from US-290 to SH-71<\/p>\n
10. I-10 from I-45 to US-59<\/p>\n
US-59 took some of the top spots, and Texas A&M Transportation Institute researcher David Schrank says construction on other corridors is really putting pressure on US-59, also known as I-69.<\/p>\n
“Several of the corridors that usually have a pretty good amount of delay on them, also added the beginning of construction, some of them for the NHHIP work that’s coming up,” says Schrank. “It may be just working on sort of spot treatments, not the whole corridor yet, but there are some of those things going on, so it starts affecting the I-69 corridor.”<\/p>\n
On the bright side, TxDOT says the data shows that compared with similarly sized metropolitan areas nationwide, delay per mile of travel in both Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth was about 39% lower than in similarly sized cities.<\/p>\n
