{"id":48647,"date":"2025-07-08T12:18:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-08T12:18:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/48647\/"},"modified":"2025-07-08T12:18:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-08T12:18:08","slug":"roger-waters-faces-possible-prosecution-after-supporting-banned-palestine-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/48647\/","title":{"rendered":"Roger Waters faces possible prosecution after supporting banned Palestine Action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Pink Floyd songwriter Roger Waters could face prosecution after declaring his support for Palestine Action, a terrorist organization that has been <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/23\/world-news\/uk-government-says-it-will-ban-pro-palestinian-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">banned by\u00a0Parliament in the UK.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Waters posted a video to X on Saturday, in which the Rock \u2018N Roll Hall of Fame inductee praised Palestine Action as a \u201cgreat organization,\u201d while also <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/01\/world-news\/bob-vylan-claims-its-being-targeted-for-death-to-idf-chants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">giving kudos to\u00a0Bob Vylan<\/a>, who led the Glastonbury Festival crowd in a chant, shouting, \u201cDeath, death to the IDF.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Waters said in his video that he was in his studio and was working on a piece of brown cardboard with a Sharpie.<\/p>\n<p>He then switched the camera from his face to the cardboard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis says, \u2018Roger Waters supports Palestine Action, 5th of July 2025. Parliament has been corrupted by agents of a genocidal foreign power. Stand up and be counted. It\u2019s Now,&#8217;\u201d Waters read. \u201cThis is the moment. I am Spartacus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is Independence Day, July 5th, 2025,\u201d he continued. \u201cI declare my independence from the government of the U.K., who\u2019ve just designated Palestine Action a terrorist, proscribed terrorist organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Waters said he supports Palestine Action, calling it a \u201cgreat organization,\u201d and noting that they are \u201cnonviolent\u201d and \u201cabsolutely not terrorists in any way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re a nonviolent protest organization protesting the presence in the U.K. of Elbit Systems, who are an Israeli arms manufacturing organization,\u201d he said. \u201cAll right. So, that\u2019s that. Vylan. Good on you, Vylan, and the rest of you who are standing up to be counted. I love you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reuters reported that last week, the UK government moved to ban Palestine Action under\u00a0anti-terrorism laws\u00a0after its activists broke into a Royal Air Force base and damaged two planes in protest of what the organization called Britain\u2019s support for Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Waters said he supports Palestine Action, calling it a \u201cgreat organization,\u201d and noting that they are \u201cnonviolent\u201d and \u201cabsolutely not terrorists in any way.\u201d AP<\/p>\n<p>After a parliamentary vote, the government proscribed the group as a terrorist organization, and the ban went into effect at midnight.<\/p>\n<p>Under\u00a0UK law, offenses include things like inviting support, expressing approval or displaying symbols of a banned group, and violations are punishable by up to 14 years behind bars and\/or a fine.<\/p>\n<p>There are currently 81 groups listed under anti-terrorism laws in Britain, including al-Qaeda, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/04\/world-news\/hamas-says-it-has-given-a-positive-response-to-the-ceasefire-proposal-in-gaza\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ISIS and Hamas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He then turned his attention to others who support Palestine, like Bob Vylan, a punk-rap duo who led anti-Israel chants at the Glastonbury Festival late last month. Vuk Valcic\/SOPA Images\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>Parliament\u2019s Minister of State, Sir David Hanson, said after the amendment\u2019s approval that Palestine Action released an \u201cundercover manual\u201d that encourages its members to create small groups and provides guidance about how to conduct activity against private companies and government buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Hanson also said the manual explains how to operate covertly and evade arrest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Government have assessed that Palestine Action promotes and encourages terrorism. This includes glorification <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/27\/us-news\/president-trump-predicts-gaza-ceasefire-within-the-next-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">of its attacks involving serious<\/a> property damage on social media,\u201d Hanson said. \u201cI have to say that we would not tolerate this activity from organisations if they were motivated by Islamist or extreme right-wing ideologies, and therefore I cannot tolerate it from Palestine Action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy implementing this measure, we will remove Palestine Action\u2019s veil of legitimacy, tackle its financial support and degrade its efforts to recruit and radicalise people into committing terrorist activity in its name,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>After a parliamentary vote, the government proscribed the group as a terrorist organization, and the ban went into effect at midnight.
