PHOENIX \u2014 A woman riding an electric scooter is in the hospital after she was struck by a driver who was possibly impaired in west Phoenix early Thursday morning, authorities said.<\/p>\n

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to the area of 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road<\/a> for reports of a collision involving a pedestrian around 1:16 a.m.<\/p>\n

When police arrived on scene, they found an adult female who they said had been riding an electric scooter when she was hit.<\/p>\n

She was taken to a nearby hospital by the Phoenix Fire Department with life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

Police said that the vehicle and its driver were located nearby by Glendale police. They detained the driver and Phoenix officers later took custody of him.<\/p>\n

The man was then transported to a nearby precinct and processed for possible impairment.<\/p>\n

The investigation into the west Phoenix collision is ongoing.<\/p>\n

No other information was provided.<\/p>\n
