{"id":486954,"date":"2026-01-02T11:18:54","date_gmt":"2026-01-02T11:18:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/486954\/"},"modified":"2026-01-02T11:18:54","modified_gmt":"2026-01-02T11:18:54","slug":"rideshare-driver-found-shot-dead-in-car-in-what-could-be-nycs-first-homicide-of-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/486954\/","title":{"rendered":"Rideshare driver found shot dead in car in what could be NYC&#8217;s first homicide of 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A hardworking livery cab driver and married father of four\u00a0was gunned down\u00a0\u201cin cold blood\u201d during a Bronx road rage clash\u00a0early Thursday \u2013\u00a0marking the\u00a0city\u2019s first homicide of 2026 and one of four shootings reported just hours into the new year, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Issa\u00a0Mbolo-Isac, 55,\u00a0was found with a mortal gunshot wound to the head when cops responded to the intersection of Morris Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway in Mount Hope just before 7 a.m., police said.<\/p>\n<p>Responding EMS workers pronounced him dead at the scene, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>Issa\u00a0Mbolo-Isac, 55, was identified as the victim. Kyle Mazza\/UNF NEWS\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>Mbolo-Isac, an emigree from Burkina Faso,\u00a0had worked as a rideshare driver for 10 years \u2013 the most recent five with Uber,\u00a0according to Fernando Mateo, the spokesman for the\u00a0\u00a0New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers.<\/p>\n<p>Two men in another vehicle started arguing with Mbolo-Isaac after a \u201cfender bender\u201d and \u201cchased him down [and] tried to physically take him out of the car,\u201d Mateo told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he refused to get out of the car, he accelerated the vehicle,\u201d Mateo said. \u201cThese two individuals turned around and shot through the window, shooting him twice, impacting him twice in the head.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NYPD wasn\u2019t immediately able to confirm Mateo\u2019s description of the slaying.<\/p>\n<p>He described the victim as\u00a0a \u201cnice person\u201d who \u201cwas never in trouble\u201d\u00a0and \u201chas been exemplary in the line of work that he does.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is very hurtful to us as an industry, to wake up New Year\u2019s Day and know that one of your drivers was murdered, was shot twice in the head,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was no easy news to swallow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mbolo-Isac\u00a0once owned a medallion, but sold it to buy a house back in\u00a0Burkina Faso, according to Mateo.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a very good, hard-working man,\u201d said the slain driver\u2019s brother, Mounir Zoron, 35. \u201cHe worked very hard every day to support his family. He had no issue with anybody. He was trying to run away from these a\u2013holes. He was trying to run away from them and they shot him. They\u2019re criminals. They\u2019re animals.
