Image courtesy of the Art Institute of Chicago<\/p>\n<p>A work by openly queer artist Raqib Shaw is among those being shown at the Art Institute of Chicago in the latter half of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRaqib Shaw: Paradise Lost\u201d is currently at the venue and will actually be shown through Jan. 19, 2026. According to a description from the Art Institute, \u201cKashmir-raised, London-based artist Raqib Shaw debuts his more-than 100-feet-wide, 21-panel Paradise Lost (2009\u201325) at the Art Institute of Chicago, marking the first time all four chapters will be displayed. The magnificent allegorical painting takes viewers on a journey dense with symbolism and detail, exploring themes of identity, transformation, and the redemptive power of beauty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The outspoken Shaw has discussed his sexuality with such outlets as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.studiointernational.com\/raqib-shaw-i-really-dont-give-a-fuck-about-the-so-called-contemporary-art-world-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Studio International<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Some of the other exhibits and works slated to be shown include \u201cPixy Liao: Relationship Material\u201d (July 26\u2013Dec. 8); \u201cCharles Gaines: Night\/Crimes\u201d (Aug. 9, 2025\u2013Feb. 1, 2026); \u201cBruce Goff: Material Worlds\u201d (Dec. 21, 2025\u2013March 29, 2026), featuring the works of the late architect who is buried in Chicago\u2019s Graceland Cemetery; and \u201cElizabeth Catlett: \u2018A Black Revolutionary Artist and All That It Implies\u2019\u201d (Aug.30, 2025\u2013Jan. 4, 2026). \u201cStrange Realities: The Symbolist Imagination\u201d (Oct. 4, 2025\u2013Jan. 5, 2026) will feature more than 85 works on paper by iconic artists, including Edvard Munch\u2019s\u00a0The Scream\u00a0as well as items by lesser-known artists like Emilie Mediz-Pelikan and L\u00e9on Spilliaert.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRelated<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Raqib Shaw\u2019s Paradise Lost.
