Los Angeles Police Department officers shot and killed a man in San Pedro on New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n
At about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to the 500 block of West 37th Street for what they called \u201can unknown trouble, possible restraining order violation\u201d in a news release.<\/p>\n
\u201cUpon arrival, officers met with the victim who advised the officers that the suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Lawrence Gonzales, was inside her apartment,\u201d police said.<\/p>\n
Gonzales \u201cphysically resisted\u201d arrest, then turned violent, eventually trying to disarm the two officers, police said.<\/p>\n
At that point, at least one officer opened fire. Gonzales was struck and taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n
The officers were treated at the hospital for \u201cbruises, cuts and scrapes,\u201d police said. No one else was hurt.<\/p>\n
The shooting remains under investigation.<\/p>\n
