The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says that the suspect is reportedly in his twenties and wearing a red shirt.<\/p>\n
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says that a suspect is currently at large after a fatal hit-and-run closed all lanes of University Boulevard southbound on Friday.<\/p>\n
JSO says that at around 3:15 p.m., two vehicles, a Nissan and a Dodge Challenger, were traveling northbound near the 1900 block of University Blvd S. Witnesses told police that the driver of the Challenger was driving “well over 100 mph.”<\/p>\n
According to JSO, the driver of the Challenger crashed into the Nissan, where both vehicles spun off the road. Police say that the Nissan struck a telephone pole and burst into flames, while the Challenger went into southbound traffic and struck a Toyota Camry near the intersection of Saint Cecilia Road.<\/p>\n
Upon arrival, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue pronounced the driver of the Nissan deceased, while the occupants of the Camry were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening conditions.<\/p>\n
JSO says that after the crash, the driver of the Challenger fled on foot and is described as being in his 20s and wearing a red shirt. JSO also states that the registered owner of the Challenger has not been charged, as their description does not match the suspect.<\/p>\n
Road closures are expected to last for about another two hours, JSO says.<\/p>\n
