SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 Less than 48 hours after being struck by a stray bullet on New Year\u2019s<\/a>, 9-year-old Sebastian Rodriguez is calling for celebratory gunfire to be stopped.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you have a gun, never take it out and shoot it,\u201d he said. \u201cJust leave it inside.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rodriguez said he was on his front porch with his grandmother at midnight when he suddenly realized something was wrong.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was right here, trying not to listen to the fireworks, then the bullet hit me from this side when it came from that side,\u201d Rodriguez said. \u201cI felt it burn, then pain.\u201d <\/p>\n

Rodriguez said he screamed and ran inside to his mother, Gina Martinez.<\/p>\n

Martinez said she initially thought Rodriguez was hit by a firework until she saw what she described as a bullet wound.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything was going through my mind,\u201d Martinez said. \u201cHe\u2019s my baby.\u201d<\/p>\n

The San Antonio Police Department said the bullet did not go through Rodriguez\u2019s leg, but instead was lodged about an inch above his right knee.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe bullet was still hot,\u201d Rodriguez said, \u201cso it looked like it burst my skin.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rodriguez was taken to the hospital for treatment, and returned home later that day.<\/p>\n

Martinez said she\u2019s grateful her son is expected to be okay and is proud of how he handled the ordeal.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud of him for being brave,\u201d Martinez said, \u201cyou know, for being strong.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Martinez said the incident should be a warning to anyone firing guns into the air to celebrate.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t know who\u2019s on the receiving end of the fun you think you\u2019re having,\u201d Martinez said.<\/p>\n

Police are still investigating and have no information on a possible suspect.<\/p>\n

As a mother, Martinez had strong words for whoever fired the shot that injured her son.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey hurt my baby,\u201d Martinez said. \u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s a nice way to say anything for somebody being so irresponsible.\u201d<\/p>\n
