PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was found unresponsive in an Ogontz home with three dogs that had been shot.<\/p>\n
Officers were called to the 1900 block of Medary Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. Friday.<\/p>\n
“His wife returned from work and found him laying in front of the house unconscious,” said Capt. Christopher Bradshaw.<\/p>\n
The man had a bite mark on his ankle, authorities said. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he later died.<\/p>\n
The cause of death of the 53-year-old homeowner remains under investigation.<\/p>\n
There were a total of four pit bulls inside the home, police said.<\/p>\n
While three of them had been shot to death, a fourth dog was apparently unharmed in a cage in the bathroom.<\/p>\n
Animal control officers carried the dog out of the home to safety.<\/p>\n
A gun was found at the home, but police said it’s unclear if that was the weapon used to shoot the three dogs.<\/p>\n
