data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">pursues a greener transition<\/a> and a more reliable power supply.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The targets were outlined in guidelines issued by the National Development and Reform Commission, the country\u2019s top economic planner, together with the National Energy Administration.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In addition to strengthening long-distance transmission lines that move power from the resource-rich west to major demand centres in the east, the guidelines called for adding about 40 GW of interprovincial transfer capacity by 2030, aiming to \u201ceffectively improve the grid\u2019s ability to optimise resource allocation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The west-to-east transmission project was estimated to reach a capacity of over 340 GW by the end of 2025, up 25 per cent from 270 GW at the end of the 13th five-year plan, according to Communist Party mouthpiece the People\u2019s Daily, which reported the figures in October.<\/p>\n<p>The new guidelines, released on Wednesday, came as Beijing steps up efforts to safeguard energy security amid expectations of rising demand fuelled by intensifying global competition in sectors such as <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/article\/3317136\/china-power-grid-record-renewable-energy-ai-spurs-demand?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\"
