The app teaches users about plant diversity, how to care for houseplants, diagnose disease and track their own plant collections.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Ling, a former Empire Innovation Professor at Stony Brook University in New York and IEEE Fellow, the highest grade of membership in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, is widely recognised as a pioneer in computer vision and AI.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-qa=\"Component-StyledBlockquote\" class=\"css-se4oaj e1t6i3s45\"><p>Traditional AI fields have become highly mature, and genuine breakthroughs require fresh exploration<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ling Haibin, chair professor, Westlake University<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">He will now serve as chair professor in Westlake\u2019s Department of Artificial Intelligence, leading its Intelligent Computing and Application Lab, the university announced on social media on December 29.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Ling, 51, said he made the career move because Westlake University offered greater freedom for exploring novel research avenues.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cTraditional AI fields have become highly mature, and genuine breakthroughs require fresh exploration,\u201d Ling said, adding that he felt a greater sense of freedom and inclusivity at Westlake and that the university provided substantial support.<\/p>\n<p>His move follows a strong pattern of <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/series\/3325286\/abandoning-us-top-chinese-scientists-return-home?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">Chinese scientists leaving the US<\/a> amid budget cuts under the administration of President Donald Trump.
