In 82 career games against New York, he owns a .305 batting average with 100 hits, 13 home runs, and 49 RBIs—making the Yanks the team he has victimized most frequently with long balls.

Beyond his offensive production, Bichette has also established himself as a reliable defender, ranking among the top 10 shortstops in Major League Baseball in 2025.

By contrast, despite his status as a homegrown fan favorite, Anthony Volpe endured a difficult season defensively, finishing a lowly 20th in the same positional rankings. While the Bleacher Creatures may be hoping for a bounce-back campaign from Volpe in 2026, it’s difficult to dispute that upgrading to Bichette would represent a marked improvement.

The Yankees have been very quiet this offseason, with departures far outpacing arrivals as the likes of Devin Williams and Luke Weaver have jumped ship. However, if GM Brian Cashman and the Bombers’ front office can land the two-time All-Star, it would go a long way toward easing the growing unease among antsy fans.

NEW YORK, N.Y.— If you can’t beat ‘em…get ‘em to join?
