For six games, Denver Barkey<\/strong> had been knocking on the door for his first NHL goal. Game No. 7 was finally the charm.<\/p>\n

Barkey’s first NHL goal highlighted a three-goal first period for the Flyers<\/strong>, who withstood the push from the Edmonton<\/strong> Oilers<\/strong> in a 5-2 win on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The Oilers opened up a 6-2 lead in shots, but the Flyers struck for the first goal at 7:16. Barkey scored his first NHL goal off a rush to make it 1-0.<\/p>\n

The Flyers added to the lead at 10:31. After a couple of close chances, Travis Sanheim<\/strong> got the puck in the slot and picked his spot for his fourth goal of the season to make it 2-0.<\/p>\n

Just over four minutes later, the Flyers took a three-goal lead. Cam York<\/strong>‘s shot attempt deflected off the heel of Bobby Brink<\/strong> and in for his 11th goal of the season to make it 3-0.<\/p>\n

The Oilers got a goal back less than two minutes later. A cross-ice pass by Sanheim was intercepted and led to a breakaway for Connor McDavid<\/strong>, who scored his 25th goal of the season to make it 3-1.<\/p>\n

Through 20 minutes, shots were 13-9 Edmonton.<\/p>\n

The Oilers got the game’s first power play midway through the second and made quick work of it. At 9:54, the Flyers’ lead was cut to one, as Evan Bouchard<\/strong> fired a one-timer for his eighth goal of the season to make it 3-2.<\/p>\n

Through two periods, shots were 19-18 Flyers.<\/p>\n

The Flyers added some insurance at 9:09 of the third. Off a face-off, Nick Seeler<\/strong> floated a shot on goal that beat Calvin Pickard<\/strong> to make it 4-2.<\/p>\n

With the goalie pulled in the final minutes, Owen Tippett<\/strong> capped things off with an empty-net goal.<\/p>\n

Dan Vladar<\/strong> made 22 saves on 24 shots in the win. Pickard made 24 saves on 28 shots in the loss.<\/p>\n

Tippett, Seeler, and Sean Couturier<\/strong> each had two points for the Flyers. McDavid had two points for the Oilers.<\/p>\n

The Flyers return home for the next four games, starting on Tuesday night against the Anaheim Ducks at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n
