{"id":491183,"date":"2026-01-04T06:36:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-04T06:36:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/491183\/"},"modified":"2026-01-04T06:36:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-04T06:36:13","slug":"brewers-unaware-of-venezuelan-players-status-after-us-captures-nicolas-maduro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/491183\/","title":{"rendered":"Brewers unaware of Venezuelan players status after US captures Nicolas Maduro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0Milwaukee Brewers\u00a0say they are unaware of the status of several players in Venezuela after the US military conducted strikes on the country and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/03\/world-news\/at-least-7-explosions-and-low-flying-aircraft-are-heard-in-venezuelas-caracas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">took President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro<\/a> into custody.<\/p>\n<p>Brewers president of baseball operations\u00a0Matt Arnold\u00a0revealed the team is unaware of the status of the players in a statement Saturday. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t have much info at the moment but are trying to follow up,\u201d Arnold said, via the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/story\/sports\/mlb\/brewers\/2026\/01\/03\/jackson-chourio-other-brewers-in-venezuela-amid-uncertainty\/88006878007\/?gnt-cfr=1&amp;gca-cat=p&amp;gca-uir=false&amp;gca-epti=z114542p118750c118750u002642d00----v114542&amp;gca-ft=55&amp;gca-ds=sophi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.<\/a>\u00a0\u201cWe know the airports have been shut down but not much beyond that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The team\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/03\/sports\/venezuelan-golfer-johnattan-vegas-weighs-in-after-trump-orders-maduro-capture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">players in Venezuela<\/a> include star outfielder Jackson Chourio, infielder Andruw Monasterio and catcher Jeferson Quero, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/03\/us-news\/nicolas-maduro-wife-greeted-by-jeers-of-down-with-the-dictator-by-hundreds-of-revelers-at-brooklyn-lock-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US military\u2019s recent strike<\/a> comes after targeting alleged\u00a0drug-smuggling boats\u00a0in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific.<\/p>\n<p>Forces carried out a \u201clarge-scale strike\u201d in Venezuela early Saturday morning and took Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife into custody, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/03\/world-news\/trump-issues-chilling-warning-to-colombia-cuba-after-us-strikes-venezuela-captures-maduro-he-does-have-to-watch-his-a\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0confirmed.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The president wrote on Truth Social that the operation was successful and Maduro and his wife were \u201ccaptured and flown out of the country.\u201d Trump said the operation was conducted with US law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Milwaukee Brewers star outfielder Jackson Chourio before game three of the National League Championship Series at Dodger Stadium on Oct. 16, 2025. AP<\/p>\n<p>At least seven explosions could be heard in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/03\/us-news\/maduro-was-vice-president-when-president-hugo-chavez-died\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Venezuela\u2019s capital city of Caracas<\/a>\u00a0early Saturday morning, according to The Associated Press, and low-flying aircraft were seen flying over Caracas at about 2 a.m. local time.<\/p>\n<p>The helicopters flying over Caracas were part of the\u00a0US Army\u2019s\u00a0160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, known as the \u201cNight Stalkers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Venezuelan government said in a statement that \u201cthe civilian and military localities of the city of Caracas, capital of the Republic, and the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira\u201d were damaged by the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Milwaukee Brewers players celebrate after winning a game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Aug. 30, 2025. X account of Rapid Response 47\/AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The statement also accused the US of committing a \u201cvery serious military aggression\u201d against Venezuela and carrying out \u201cimperialist aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe objective of this attack is none other than to seize Venezuela\u2019s strategic resources, particularly its oil and minerals, attempting to break the Nation\u2019s political independence by force,\u201d the Government of Venezuela said in a statement. \u201cThey will not succeed.
