A man is recovering after being shot in the face <\/a>while sitting inside his car in broad daylight on Jacksonville\u2019s Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\nThe shooting happened just after 4:15 p.m. Monday in the 1600 block of Guardian Drive, in the Pinecrest neighborhood.<\/p>\n
Police say officers arrived to find an adult man with a gunshot wound to the face. Investigators say the victim was seated inside his vehicle when an unknown suspect opened fire, then fled the area. No suspect description was immediately released.<\/p>\n
The victim was taken to a local hospital and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries, police said.<\/p>\n
While canvassing the neighborhood,\u00a0First Coast News spoke with severa lneighbors who described the moments after the gunfire \u2014 and the fear it sparked.<\/p>\n
One neighbor told First Coast News\u00a0the shooting happened right beside her home, and she heard every gunshot. She told our crew her security camera captured the victim getting into his car, reversing, and being shot at.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As the gunfire continued, she said the vehicle rolled uncontrollably into the side of her house. The woman became emotional while describing what she witnessed.<\/p>\n
Other neighbors say the sound of gunfire immediately caught their attention.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was louder than usual, which is why it alerted me,\u201d said neighbor Timothy Sarge.<\/p>\n
Police blocked off the street leading into the neighborhood for hours.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was 9 o\u2019clock when they start let people actually go home, those people parked over there for hours,\u201d Sarge said.<\/p>\n
Residents say the violence has left them concerned about safety \u2014 especially with children often playing in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just have my nephews live here, so I just worry about their safety because they, they play on the street. Literally, we just stand like right here and watch them go on the little cars or whatever, so that\u2019s all I would worry about,\u201d Sarge said.<\/p>\n
The Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office says the case remains an active investigation and detectives are still working to identify the suspect.<\/p>\n
