Fangio is a genius, but he\u2019s got a tremendous group of assistants that are outstanding hands-on teachers and football minds. Defensive tackle coach and senior defensive assistant Clint Hurtt has worked wonders with this young group of interior linemen in his two years with the Eagles, linebackers coach Bobby King, also in his second year here, has his group playing lights out, secondary coach Christian Parker is the best in the business and has terrific assistants himself in safeties coach Joe Kaspar and corners coach Roy Anderson, and then there\u2019s edge rush coach Jeremiah Washburn, who came here under Doug Pederson and has consistently produced outstanding pass rushers. The next week Dallas beat the New York Giants in overtime, but actually dropped the confidence back to 38%. Confidence reached a season-low 7% when the Cowboys got smacked around by the Chicago Bears in Week 3. Confidence reached a season-high of 82% when the Cowboys made their mini-run after the bye and trade deadline. That was the time when they were in play for a playoff spot. Report after report in recent days has indicated that despite overseeing a team that has gone 12-38 since the beginning of the 2023 season that is the choice the Giants intend to make. Dianna Russini of The Athletic joined a chorus on NFL insiders reporting similar information when she wrote on Saturday that Schoen \u201cappears to be safe for now.\u201d That will not be a popular decision with many in the Giants\u2019 fan base and media. I certainly understand why. There has been too much losing the last three seasons. The GM\u2019s personnel miscues, and maybe his desire to hire Brian Daboll as head coach in 2022 instead of Brian Flores, have contributed. The Giants, though, appear willing to ride with Schoen. At least a little bit longer. It is a decision I can understand. I might even go so far as to say that it is the right decision. Probably. Until I change my mind. No, seriously, I think that given where they are the shortest path to success for the Giants likely involves keeping Schoen and pairing him with the right coach.
