The Athletic first reported the talks<\/a>.<\/p>\n While nothing is finalized, the discussions are the clearest sign yet that the Yankees plan to fortify a rotation that will begin 2026 without three important starters.<\/p>\n New York will be without former Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rod\u00f3n and Clarke Schmidt \u2014 all recovering from elbow injuries. <\/p>\n Cole and Rod\u00f3n could return sometime in May, while Schmidt isn\u2019t expected back until the second half.<\/p>\n In addition to the Yankees, the Mets and Cubs have also expressed interest in Cabrera, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. <\/a><\/p>\n The Astros \u2014 who just signed Japanese star Tatsuya Imai <\/a>\u2014 and the Orioles, fresh off acquiring Shane Baz, are reportedly no longer in the mix<\/a> for Cabrera.<\/p>\n Cabrera, 27, has frequently surfaced as a trade candidate this offseason alongside teammate Sandy Alcantara. <\/p>\n He\u2019s coming off the best season of his career, going 8\u20137 with a 3.53 ERA and 150 strikeouts over 137\u2154 innings \u2013 all career highs.<\/p>\n Cabrera, who is set to make $3.75 million in 2026, comes with three additional years of team control.<\/p>\n But injuries remain a concern, as Cabrera spent time on the injured list in 2025 with a blister to begin the year and then an elbow sprain in September.<\/p>\n A shoulder injury limited the Dominican Republic native to just 20 starts in 2024.<\/p>\n If healthy, Cabrera would provide the Yankees\u2019 rotation a major boost alongside Max Fried, Luis Gil, Cam Schlittler and Will Warren.<\/p>\n The Yankees also re-signed veteran Ryan Yarbrough earlier in the offseason, giving the team starting depth.<\/p>\n In addition to Cabrera, the Yankees have \u201ccontinued to discuss\u201d Brewers ace Freddy Peralta, according to The Athletic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The starting pitching trade market is heating up.
