Times<\/a> report on <b>Measure AB-645<\/b>, a new effort to catch and penalize speeders around the state, and it found that <b>speed was a major factor in traffic collisions that led to death or injury. <\/b>The data was calculated by ConsumerAffairs, which analyzed numbers from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Fatality Analysis Reporting System in California.<\/p>\n<p> <b>The five deadliest freeways in California are: <\/b> <\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><b>The 15 Freeway in San Bernardino County:<\/b> 48 deaths in 2022, up from 33 in 2018<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b>The 10 Freeway in Riverside County:<\/b> 31 deaths in 2022, up from 25 in 2018<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b>The 5 Freeway in San Diego County:<\/b> 21 deaths in 2022, up from 19 in 2018<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b>5 Freeway in Orange County:<\/b> 16 deaths in 2022, up from 14 in 2018<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b>The 101 Freeway in Santa Barbara County:<\/b> 15 deaths in 2022, up from 7 in 2018<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> What is measure <a href=\"https:\/\/secretlosangeles.com\/cameras-speeding-tickets-ab645\/\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\" class=\"shortcode-outbound-link\" data-has-ga=\"true\" data-ga-type=\"click\" data-label=\"https:\/\/secretlosangeles.com\/cameras-speeding-tickets-ab645\/\" data-action=\"text_cta_1\" data-category=\"click_internal\">AB-645<\/a>? <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The news comes alongside the initiation of the <b>Speed Safety System Pilot Program, <\/b>voted into law with Measure AB-645.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The measure allows California cities to install cameras that <b>capture speeders in high-risk areas and <a href=\"https:\/\/secretlosangeles.com\/if-a-driverless-car-gets-a-parking-ticket-in-l-a-who-pays-it\/\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\" class=\"shortcode-outbound-link\" data-has-ga=\"true\" data-ga-type=\"click\" data-label=\"https:\/\/secretlosangeles.com\/if-a-driverless-car-gets-a-parking-ticket-in-l-a-who-pays-it\/\" data-action=\"text_cta_2\" data-category=\"click_internal\">ticket them<\/a>.<\/b> Los Angeles is one of the six cities chosen to participate in the program alongside Oakland, San Jose, Long Beach, Glendale, and San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The program <a href=\"https:\/\/secretlosangeles.com\/new-california-laws-in-2026\/\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\" class=\"shortcode-outbound-link\" data-has-ga=\"true\" data-ga-type=\"click\" data-label=\"https:\/\/secretlosangeles.com\/new-california-laws-in-2026\/\" data-action=\"text_cta_3\" data-category=\"click_internal\">went into effect on January 1, 2026<\/a>. <b>Glendale has already activated the speed cameras in nine locations<\/b>. Cameras around Los Angeles are expected to begin operating in mid-2026. Both Long Beach and Malibu are expected to install cameras this spring.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">And a ticket isn\u2019t your only worry.<b> If you\u2019re caught speeding over 100 mph, your license could be revoked by the DMV.<\/b><b\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">You can read more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/secretlosangeles.com\/cameras-speeding-tickets-ab645\/\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\" class=\"shortcode-outbound-link\" data-has-ga=\"true\" data-ga-type=\"click\" data-label=\"https:\/\/secretlosangeles.com\/cameras-speeding-tickets-ab645\/\" data-action=\"text_cta_4\" data-category=\"click_internal\">locations and fines here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2025, a new report named L.A. as the 10th most <a href=\"https:\/\/secretlosangeles.com\/future-of-commuting-how-la-is-innovating-to-reduce-traffic\/\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\" class=\"shortcode-outbound-link\" data-has-ga=\"true\" data-ga-type=\"click\" data-label=\"https:\/\/secretlosangeles.com\/future-of-commuting-how-la-is-innovating-to-reduce-traffic\/\" data-action=\"text_cta_6\" data-category=\"click_internal\">traffic-congested<\/a> city across the globe \u2013 and it was actually an improvement from the previous year\u2019s ranking. The study considered <strong>travel delay, costs of congestion to drivers and regions, and commuting trends<\/strong> to create a ranking system that shares the economic cost of congestion as hours lost per year. At <strong>#10<\/strong>, L.A. residents lose about <strong>87 hours a year to traffic congestion<\/strong>. In other words, we spend over three entire days a year in the car, driving in traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Three other American cities beat out Los Angeles in the ranking.
