{"id":49431,"date":"2025-07-08T19:04:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-08T19:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/49431\/"},"modified":"2025-07-08T19:04:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-08T19:04:09","slug":"dune-3-gets-official-title-shot-with-imax-cameras","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/49431\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Dune 3&#8217; Gets Official Title, Shot With Imax Cameras"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhat\u2019s in a name?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/denis-villeneuve\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Denis Villeneuve<\/a>\u2018s upcoming return to Arrakis is officially titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/dune-part-three\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dune-part-three\" data-tag=\"dune-part-three\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dune: Part Three<\/a>.\u201d Reports had called the film \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/dune-messiah\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dune-messiah\" data-tag=\"dune-messiah\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dune Messiah<\/a>,\u201d a nod to the 1969 book from Frank Herbert that the film will adapt as its storyline, following Paul \u201cMuad\u2019Dib\u201d Atreides as he takes over as emperor. On Rentrak, the film is listed as \u201cDune: Part Three.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe film will also include sequences shot with <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/imax\/\" id=\"auto-tag_imax\" data-tag=\"imax\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Imax<\/a> cameras.  However, \u201cDune: Part Three\u201d will not be entirely shot with Imax cameras, following in the footsteps of <a data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/christopher-nolan-the-odyssey-imax-cameras-1236400161\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/christopher-nolan-the-odyssey-imax-cameras-1236400161\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Christopher Nolan\u2019s \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d which is the first and so far only film to be produced that way<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn an interview on CNBC, Imax CEO Richard Gelfond seemed to suggest that the next \u201cDune\u201d would be filmed entirely with the company\u2019s proprietary cameras, but it appears he misspoke. During the end of the interview, Gelfond was asked about Villeneuve being hired by Amazon MGM Studios to direct their reboot of the James Bond franchise. The exec\u2019s response also touched on the director\u2019s plans for \u201cDune: Part Three\u201d at Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, which will film before the 007 revival.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cFrom a personal point of view, I was really happy. I like him. I think he\u2019s a genius filmmaker,\u201d Gelfond said about the Bond hiring. \u201cHe\u2019s so creative. He\u2019s making the next \u2018Dune\u2019 \u2014 with Imax cameras, he\u2019s filming the whole thing. So we haven\u2019t started talking yet, but I\u2019m praying that that\u2019s the case with Bond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA spokesperson for Legendary did not respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tGelfond also touted Imax\u2019s success through the year\u2019s summer blockbuster season, citing that \u201cF1\u201d earned 23% of its opening weekend grosses in Imax auditoriums. Meanwhile, \u201cMission: Impossible \u2014 The Final Reckoning\u201d did 20% in Imax its first two weeks. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThink of 20% of the box office, when we\u2019re less than 1% of the screens. The public is really demanding it,\u201d Gelfond said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFilming on \u201cDune: Part Three\u201d is set to begin imminently, with Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet and Zendaya reprising their roles. Jason Momoa has also confirmed he will return for \u201cPart Three,\u201d after featuring in the first \u201cDune\u201d but not appearing in \u201cPart Two.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLast year, Villeneuve spoke about the film and said the next \u201cDune\u201d installment \u201cwill not be the completion of a trilogy\u201d in his eyes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cFirst, it\u2019s important that people understand that for me, it was really a diptych,\u201d Villeneuve said of the first two \u201cDune\u201d movies. \u201cIt was really a pair of movies that will be the adaptation of the first book. That\u2019s done and that\u2019s finished. If I do a third one, which is in the writing process, it\u2019s not like a trilogy. It\u2019s strange to say that, but if I go back there, it\u2019s to do something that feels different and has its own identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn a recent interview with Variety, Bruce Markoe, senior vice president and head of post-production at Imax, <a data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/the-difference-between-filmed-for-imax-and-shot-with-imax-1236425200\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/the-difference-between-filmed-for-imax-and-shot-with-imax-1236425200\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">explained<\/a> what a movie being \u201cshot with Imax\u201d means for audiences and filmmakers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThose movies that were shot with our film cameras receive that kind of nomenclature. Those are different than the \u2018Filmed for Imax\u2019 movies, which are all shot with digital cameras. However, a lot of the same kind of process takes place in the making of the movie when they\u2019re shooting with our film cameras,\u201d Markoe said. \u201cThose movies still do a lot of testing and reviews, and filmmakers work very closely with us throughout the entire production, since it\u2019s our camera on set, whereas the \u2018Filmed for Imax\u2019 program is using certified digital cameras that are not necessarily unique to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cDune: Part Three\u201d is expected to arrive in theaters in December 2026. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBrent Lang contributed to this report.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"What\u2019s in a name?
