{"id":494546,"date":"2026-01-05T17:29:16","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T17:29:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/494546\/"},"modified":"2026-01-05T17:29:16","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T17:29:16","slug":"ai-godfather-calls-meta-ai-boss-alexander-wang-inexperienced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/494546\/","title":{"rendered":"AI godfather calls Meta AI boss Alexander Wang \u2018inexperienced\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yann LeCun, chief AI scientist at Meta Platforms Inc., at the VivaTech conference in Paris, France, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. <\/p>\n<p>Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/META\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meta&#8217;s<\/a> former chief AI scientist, Yann Lecun, has called its 29-year-old AI boss &#8220;inexperienced,&#8221; and warned of a staff exodus from the company.<\/p>\n<p>Alexander Wang, the billionaire co-founder of Scale AI, joined Meta as its chief AI officer in 2025 after the tech giant bought a 49% stake in his startup. <\/p>\n<p>His hiring came amid an intensifying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/06\/ai-talent-war-tech-giants-pay-talent-millions-of-dollars.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI talent war<\/a>, in which Meta reportedly offered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/06\/18\/sam-altman-says-meta-tried-to-poach-openai-staff-with-100-million-bonuses-mark-zuckerberg.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$100 million signing bonuses<\/a> to poach top talent from ChatGPT maker OpenAI, as it raced other hyperscalers to dominate the multibillion-dollar AI market with the most advanced models.<\/p>\n<p>Lecun, who&#8217;s known as one of the &#8220;godfathers of AI&#8221; and quit Meta in November, called Wang &#8220;young&#8221; and &#8220;inexperienced&#8221; in an interview with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/e3c4c2f6-4ea7-4adf-b945-e58495f836c2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He learns fast, he knows what he doesn&#8217;t know,&#8221; Lecun said of Wang, who heads up Meta&#8217;s new AI research unit TBD Labs and is tasked with building new AI models. But Lecun added: &#8220;There&#8217;s no experience with research or how you practise research, how you do it. Or what would be attractive or repulsive to a researcher.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lecun, 65, added that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg &#8220;basically lost confidence in everyone who was involved&#8221; after the company was accused of gaming benchmarks to make its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/10\/16\/metas-open-source-approach-to-ai-puzzles-wall-street-techies-love-it.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Llama<\/a> 4 model look more impressive. Zuckerberg &#8220;basically sidelined the entire Gen AI organization,&#8221; Lecun said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A lot of people have left, a lot of people who haven&#8217;t yet left will leave,&#8221; Lecun added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had a lot of new ideas and really cool stuff that they should implement.
