Ambulances and fire trucks were on standby.<\/p>\n<p>Lebanon\u2019s Health Ministry said a drone strike on a car in the southern village of Braikeh earlier Monday wounded two people. The Israeli military said the strike targeted two Hezbollah members.<\/p>\n<p>The latest attacks follow Sunday\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/1\/4\/israel-kills-two-people-in-new-attack-on-southern-lebanon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deadly Israeli strike<\/a> on a vehicle in the Ayn al-Mizrab area north of the town of Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon that killed two people. The Israeli military said the attack, which occurred 10km (6 miles) from the border, also targeted a Hezbollah member.<\/p>\n<p>Israel has continued its attacks despite a United States-brokered ceasefire in 2024, which ended more than a year \u200cof heavy fighting between its forces and Hezbollah.<\/p>\n<p>The Israeli military has repeatedly violated the truce with bombardment and continues to occupy five areas in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Pressure on Lebanon<\/p>\n<p>Lebanon \u200chas faced growing pressure \u2060from the US and Israel to disarm Hezbollah, and its leaders fear Israel could escalate strikes.<\/p>\n<p>Lebanon\u2019s army was expected to complete the disarmament south of the Litani River \u2013 30km (19 miles) from the border with Israel \u2013 by the end of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Sunday called the disarmament efforts \u201cfar from sufficient\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Beirut-based security affairs analyst Ali Rizk said the latest attacks come as no surprise following last week\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/12\/30\/five-key-takeaways-from-trump-netanyahu-meeting-in-florida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">meeting<\/a> between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere had been reports that Israel got a green light to escalate against Hezbollah,\u201d Rizk told Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<p>He noted Israel\u2019s reference to Hamas as a target put more pressure on Lebanon, \u201cnot only to take action against Hezbollah, but also to take action against any other anti-Israel groups who might have a presence on Lebanese territory\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Lebanese government is expected to meet on Tuesday to discuss the army\u2019s progress in disarming Hezbollah, which remains powerful despite heavy losses it sustained at the hands of Israel, which include the killing of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2024\/9\/28\/hassan-nasrallah-hezbollah-leader-killed-in-beirut-in-israeli-strike\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">longtime leader Hassan Nasrallah<\/a> in September 2024.<\/p>\n<p>A ceasefire monitoring committee, including peacekeepers from Lebanon, Israel, France, the US and the United Nations, is also set to meet in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s continued bombardment has drawn sharp criticism from the UN, which reported in November that at least 127 civilians, including children, have been killed in Lebanon since the ceasefire took effect in late 2024.<\/p>\n<p>UN officials have warned that the attacks amount to \u201cwar crimes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Dozens of families fled a targeted village after an Israeli warning was issued, with drone activity in the&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":494699,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[4527,4783,99,18299,13192,3097,50,103],"class_list":{"0":"post-494698","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-world","8":"tag-hamas","9":"tag-hezbollah","10":"tag-israel","11":"tag-israel-attacks-lebanon","12":"tag-lebanon","13":"tag-middle-east","14":"tag-news","15":"tag-world"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@us\/115844040893012346","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/494698","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=494698"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/494698\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/494699"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=494698"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=494698"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=494698"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
