PORTER, Texas (KTRK) — Alex and Shelby Westbrook are lacing up for Houston Marathon weekend.<\/p>\n

The Westbrooks admitted running competitively was never a thing until some Disney magic changed that.<\/p>\n

The Porter couple had been to the parks 15 times together and counting. In 2024, they signed up for their first runDisney race.<\/p>\n

“They have all the characters as you’re running. It’s a whole experience,” Shelby shared.<\/p>\n

Alex added, “Doing these runs together has impacted us in a positive way. It’s a sense of accomplishment, but it’s something you did together, you accomplished together. So, it’s a nice microcosm for life and for relationships.”<\/p>\n

That first running experience together sparked something bigger.<\/p>\n

In 2025, the Westbrooks ran in their first Aramco Houston Half Marathon. In 2026, they will return to downtown Houston and run the We Are Houston 5K on Saturday, January 10th, a race that is part of Houston Marathon weekend.<\/p>\n

“It’s a great atmosphere, and so we are really looking forward to that,” Alex said.<\/p>\n

With all races, including charity entries, officially sold out, the Chevron Houston Marathon<\/a><\/strong> is set to make yet another major mark in our city.<\/p>\n
