(File photo courtesy of Living Coast Discovery Center)<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelivingcoast.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Living Coast Discovery Center<\/a>, a zoo and aquarium in Chula Vista focused on coastal and marine conservation, is looking for its next executive director.<\/p>\n<p>The search comes on the heels of its current director, Ben Vallejos, announcing his retirement. <\/p>\n<p>Vallejos said that he took a sabbatical in 2024 that ultimately led to his decision to retire.  \u201cAfter more than two decades of service, this is a natural time for me to step aside,\u201d said Vallejos in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m proud of what we have accomplished in pursuit of our mission \u2014 growing our team, strengthening our programs and expanding our impact in so many areas. The Living Coast is well-positioned for its next chapter, and I can\u2019t wait to see where the next generation of leaders will take it.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Shayna Foreman, who was previously at the nonprofit as the director of education, has been appointed the Living Coast\u2019s interim executive director.  She has extensive zoo and educational experience and has worked at Living Coast since 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Foreman emphasized the center\u2019s commitment to inclusive learning experiences and the importance of community voices. \u201cI look forward to shepherding the Living Coast forward through the opportunities and challenges of the year ahead,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Living Coast, which began operating as a non-profit in 2010 after assuming operations of the Chula Vista<br \/>Nature Center, will continue its search until it has hired a new executive director. <\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An owl on a handler\u2019s arm in front of a Living Coast banner.
