{"id":494989,"date":"2026-01-05T21:49:22","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T21:49:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/494989\/"},"modified":"2026-01-05T21:49:22","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T21:49:22","slug":"glendale-introduces-new-safety-regulations-for-e-bikes-e-scooters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/494989\/","title":{"rendered":"Glendale introduces new safety regulations for e-bikes, e-scooters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\"><b>GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 The City of Glendale is taking steps to curb dangerous electric bike and scooter incidents and improve safety.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Starting Jan. 9, Glendale\u2019s new safety regulations for e-bikes and e-scooters go into effect. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">The new regulations establish an age requirement, mandate safety equipment and prohibit reckless practices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Glendale\u2019s city council approved the new regulations in December 2025. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">The ordinance effects all three classes of e-bikes:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list | article-list\">\n<li>Class 1: Pedal-assist only (no throttle) with a top speed of 20 mph<\/li>\n<li>Class 2: Has pedals, a throttle and a top speed of 20 mph<\/li>\n<li>Class 3: Has pedals, a throttle and a top speed of 28 mph<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">It establishes the following age requirements for riders: <\/p>\n<ul class=\"list | article-list\">\n<li>E-scooter riders must be at least 12 years old<\/li>\n<li>E-bike class 1 and 2 riders must be at least 14 years old<\/li>\n<li>E-bike class 3 riders must be at least 16 years old <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The new regulations also mandate that e-bikes and e-scooters be equipped with a white front light, a red rear light and reflectors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Riders are required to follow all traffic laws. City officials say riding recklessly, riding against the flow of traffic and intentionally lifting a wheel while riding are not allowed.
