(KPLC) &#8211; Two people are dead after a single-vehicle crash north of Vinton over the weekend, according to authorities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The crash claimed the lives of Jerry Deslatte of Port Arthur, Texas, and an unidentified passenger, according to Trooper Roy Jones of Louisiana State Police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The crash happened just after 6:30 P.M. on Sunday, Jan. 4. According to Jones, Deslatte was driving a pickup truck south on La. 109. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">For reasons still under investigation, Deslatte failed to navigate a left-hand curve near Line Road, entered a ditch, and overturned, Jones said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Deslatte was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to Jones. The passenger was also unrestrained. Both died at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">LSP is working to identify the passenger. Jones asks anyone with information on the crash to call Troop D at 337-491-2511.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 KPLC.
