{"id":496213,"date":"2026-01-06T09:58:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T09:58:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/496213\/"},"modified":"2026-01-06T09:58:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T09:58:13","slug":"guillermo-del-toro-on-art-ai-fascism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/496213\/","title":{"rendered":"Guillermo del Toro On Art, AI &#038; Fascism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/cdndark.darkhorizons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/guillermo-del-toro-on-art-ai-fascism.jpg\" data-caption=\"Netflix\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"464\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/guillermo-del-toro-on-art-ai-fascism-696x464.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"guillermo-del-toro-on-art-ai-fascism\"\/><\/a>Netflix<\/p>\n<p>Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has previously talked about generative AI, indicating he\u2019s decidedly not a fan of the technology and did a famous \u201cF\u2014 AI\u201d chant at a screening.<\/p>\n<p>Late last year, he was asked about it and told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/10\/23\/nx-s1-5577963\/guillermo-del-toro-frankenstein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NPR<\/a> that: \u201cAI, particularly generative AI, I am not interested\u201d and going so far as to say \u201cI\u2019m 61, and I hope to be able to remain uninterested in using it at all until I croak.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The technology remains a hot topic as it has become more and more ubiquitous, and both video and photo creations using generative AI, once easily identifiable, are becoming harder to spot as \u2018AI slop\u2019 has permeated YouTube, Instagram, X and so many platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Now, during an acceptance speech at an awards ceremony at the Palm Springs International Film Festival over the weekend, the \u201cFrankenstein\u201d helmer has gone further and said the push for AI to replace working artists is out of the fascism playbook:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cBe kind, be involved, and believe in your art, in a time when they tell you art is not important. That is always the prelude to fascism.<\/p>\n<p>Always, when they tell you that art doesn\u2019t matter,\u2019 when they tell you a f\u2014ing app can do art, you know, you say, \u2018Well, if it\u2019s that easy and thought unimportant, why the f\u2014 do they want it so bad?\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>The answer is because they think they can debase everything that makes us a little better, a little more human.
