{"id":49638,"date":"2025-07-08T20:53:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-08T20:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/49638\/"},"modified":"2025-07-08T20:53:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-08T20:53:11","slug":"sizzling-nyc-to-face-flood-watch-during-evening-commute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/49638\/","title":{"rendered":"Sizzling NYC to face flood watch during evening commute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Big Apple is about to go from sizzling to soaked.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/08\/us-news\/dc-philadelphia-nyc-areas-brace-for-potential-strong-winds-heavy-rain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York City is set to be lashed with heavy rain and thunder<\/a> on Tuesday, just in time for the evening commute \u2014 with the wet and sticky weather expected to stick around until at least Friday, according to forecasters.<\/p>\n<p>A flood watch is in effect for the city the surrounding area starting at 2 p.m. and lasting until at least 2 a.m. Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NWSNewYorkNY\/status\/1942540490240557389\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to the National Weather Service<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The storm is expected to arrive by 6 p.m. Tuesday \u2014 in time for the evening commute. FOX Weather<\/p>\n<p>New York City is set to get hit with heavy rain and thunder on Tuesday evening. N.Y.Post\/Chad Rachman<\/p>\n<p>Severe thunderstorms could bring winds of up to 58 mph and dump at least a couple of inches of rain per hour, the agency said.<\/p>\n<p>The storm warning comes as the city is already caught in the middle of a heat advisory, with temperatures in the mid-90s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe greatest risk is going to be later tonight,\u201d said Fox Weather meteorologist Stephanie van Oppen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe flood watch goes through 2 a.m. for the city and that\u2019s likely going to be for thunderstorms that happen during the afternoon hours and definitely be a concern for the evening commute today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A cold front approaching from the east will provide \u201cenough juice\u201d to cause problems, she said.<\/p>\n<p>While the entire Interstate-95 corridor is under a flood watch, not every part of the region will face the storm\u2019s wrath.<\/p>\n<p>A radar map of the expected storms in New York on Tuesday evening. FOX Weather<\/p>\n<p>However, van Oppen cautioned, \u201cAny storms that do develop could produce flash flooding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rain will persist through at least Friday, but won\u2019t be nearly as severe as what the city could face Tuesday, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a chance that things clear out for the weekend, but we are in a pattern of hot and humid conditions that could produce afternoon thunderstorms the rest of the week,\u201d van Oppen said.<\/p>\n<p>The wet weather is expected to continue in New York City until Friday. FOX Weather<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Eric Adams, meanwhile, warned of the rising mercury earlier Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is some serious heat and we should take it into precaution and preparation,\u201d Mayor Eric Adams said <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NYCMayor\/status\/1942611165856588245\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at a briefing Tuesday morning.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Big Apple is about to go from sizzling to soaked.
