The Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> aren’t used to starting the offseason this early.<\/p>\n

But on Monday, the Chiefs were officially in that mode. They didn’t make the playoffs after a 6-11 season that included a torn ACL for Patrick Mahomes and that now has the retirement decision of Travis Kelce looming.<\/p>\n

The Chiefs didn’t waste time making some roster moves, either.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the waived QB Shane Buechele.<\/p>\n

The Chiefs had just signed Buechele off the Bills<\/a>‘ practice squad. They needed the depth for the final two weeks of the season with Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew hurt.<\/p>\n

Chris Oladokun started the final couple games, but Buechele was active as the backup.<\/p>\n

In Week 18, Buechele came on in relief against the Raiders<\/a>. He went 7-for-14 for 88 yards and ran once for four yards.<\/p>\n

The 27-year old QB spent most of the season on Buffalo’s practice squad. With the Bills in the playoffs, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them sign him back to their practice squad now just to have a familiar face around just in case.<\/p>\n

Even if Buechele doesn’t land a spot right now, he’ll surely get one before next summer. He’s a trustworthy, reliable presence in any QB room.<\/p>\n

His appearance for the Chiefs in Week 18 was actually his first regular season action in the NFL.<\/p>\n

He’ll keep working to try and get back on a field.<\/p>\n
