For Chicago Theater Week, we\u2019re offering tickets at $30, $15, or even less, depending on the participating show. This makes bigger name shows and theaters more accessible to our entire community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Theater Week runs from Feb. 5-15 and features discounts at some of the biggest theaters in town, including the Goodman Theatre\u2019s \u201cHoliday,\u201d directed by former artistic director <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wbez.org\/theater-stages\/2025\/11\/12\/amadeus-steppenwolf-goodman-theatre-robert-falls-director\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert Falls<\/a>; Steppenwolf\u2019s \u201cThe Dance of Death,\u201d starring Kathryn Erbe (\u201cLaw &amp; Order: Criminal Intent\u201d); and Chicago Shakespeare Theater\u2019s \u201cHamnet,\u201d which will likely be at the top of many <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/things-to-do\/2026\/01\/05\/chicago-theater-2026-tickets-hamilton-stereophonic-plays-musicals-concerts-dance-shows\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ticket-to-buy lists <\/a>because of the Paul Mescal-driven film of the same name.<\/p>\n<p>But there\u2019s also a menu of plays at Chicago storefront theaters that audiences curious about fresh new works can try.<\/p>\n<p>The award winning <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wbez.org\/theater-stages\/2025\/04\/02\/rivendell-theatre-chicago-tara-mallen-no-such-thing-play\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Rivendell Theatre<\/a> in Edgewater is offering a Theater Week discount on the world premiere play \u201cPivot.\u201d Written by Jeff-Award winner Alex Lubischer, the dark comedy is about a wedding on a Midwestern farm that goes awry.<\/p>\n<p>Artistic director Tara Mallen stars in the play alongside her husband, ensemble member Keith Kupferer. Mallen, who recently appeared opposite her husband and daughter in the movie \u201c<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wbez.org\/theater-stages\/2024\/06\/11\/ghostlight-movie-keith-kupferer-chicago-theater-actors\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Ghostlight<\/a>,\u201d said Theater Week is a great opportunity for exposure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheater Week brings in audiences from all over the city and the Chicagoland area, and it opens us up to audiences who wouldn\u2019t necessarily know who we were if it were not for the League\u2019s support in talking about these shows,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>                            <a class=\"AnchorLink\" id=\"image-000000\" name=\"image-000000\" data-cms-ai=\"0\"\/><\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"Image\" alt=\"20250401_Tara_Mallen_mm0093.jpg\"  width=\"840\" height=\"560\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1767704770_503_.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Rivendell Theatre\u2019s \u201cPivot\u201d is among 75 productions on sale for Chicago Theater Week. <\/p>\n<p>At the 50-seat Rivendell Theatre, viewers can see excellent actors in an intimate setting, Mallen added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou get to see the same artists that you would see on these big stages, but at Rivendell, it\u2019s up close and personal,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>On the South Side, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.definitiontheatre.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Definition Theater<\/a> will stage the Chicago premiere of \u201cBlack Cypress Bayou\u201d in the company\u2019s Hyde Park storefront. Definition partnered with Goodman to present the Pulitzer Prize winner \u201cFat Ham\u201d last winter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny type of awareness that these shows are happening is important,\u201d said Tyrone Phillips, the founding artistic director of Definition. \u201cWe\u2019re a Black-led, Black-founded organization with a multicultural ensemble that\u2019s prioritizing equity on and off the stage. We\u2019re excited for Chicago Theater Week, just to be on the map. We tell new stories that are aspiring and healing to our community that go way past the race questions or the problems. We\u2019re a solution-based organization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Written by Kristen Adele Calhoun, \u201cBlack Cypress Bayou\u201d follows a family of Black women in Texas with explosive secrets. Phillips says the entire cast, along with the writer and director, is made up of Black women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis play is dope because it\u2019s a comedy,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s hilarious, but it still centers on a family with really high stakes, set in the smallest town you can think of. And it questions our past and how the ghosts of our past are still affecting our present day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prospective ticket buyers using Theater Week discounts will notice one change this year: No discount code is needed to secure tickets online. The purchase links from <a class=\"Link\" href=\"http:\/\/hottix.org\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Hottix.org<\/a> automatically factor the discount.
