\n\tSydney Sweeney<\/a> looks set to star in and executive produce The Housemaid<\/a>\u2019s Secret, the sequel from Lionsgate for The Housemaid now in development and with the studio eyeing the Euphoria actress in a starring role.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe next film\u00a0in the franchise, based on the second novel in Freida McFadden\u2019s trilogy, will also be directed by Paul Feig<\/a>. Sweeney has already signed on to exec produce the sequel, and while there\u2019s no deal yet signed for her to star, Lionsgate is understood to be looking for her to reprise her role as Millie.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for Amanda Seyfried<\/a>, a co-star in The Housemaid, she too has an executive producer credit on the sequel. And her character doesn\u2019t appear in McFadden\u2019s second book, but the possibility of Seyfried appearing in the sequel is still a possibility, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Hidden Pictures \/ Pretty Dangerous Pictures production of the sequel follows the box office success of\u00a0The Housemaid, now in theaters and having earned $75 million domestically and $133 million worldwide with international territories continuing to roll out through January.<\/p>\n

\n\tScreenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted\u00a0The Housemaid, will return to adapt the sequel for\u00a0producers Todd Lieberman, Feig, Laura Fischer, Carly Elter and Alex Young. McFadden will also serve as an executive producer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s clear from both the global box office and from the outpouring on social media that audiences have responded strongly \u2013 and audibly \u2013 to the totally unique and truly theatrical experience of\u00a0The Housemaid\u00a0and\u00a0want to know\u00a0what happens next,\u201d Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe sequel will be overseen by Lionsgate\u2019s Chelsea Kujawa, who also oversaw the first film and brought the project into the studio, alongside Maria Ascanio.
