Gray III 30th Street Station is undergoing a preservation-first renovation to restore its historic grandeur while modernizing the infrastructure and passenger experience.

While some of the work began in 2024, travelers can expect the most visible changes to unfold over the next two years. According to the website The Travel, the current schedule anticipates the South Station Retail Concourse opening in 2026.

Meanwhile, the full, more than $550 million redevelopment work is slated for completion by late 2027. During this period, travelers will find temporary barriers and rerouted walkways.

The renovation aims to maintain the station as a historic landmark while promoting modern operations. Amtrak, SEPTA, and regional services will all continue during construction through a phased renovation approach.

Retail and dining are being reimagined into a high-end food hall and a vibrant retail corridor in the North and South concourses, complementing the main hall’s architectural legacy.
