{"id":49762,"date":"2025-07-08T21:59:16","date_gmt":"2025-07-08T21:59:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/49762\/"},"modified":"2025-07-08T21:59:16","modified_gmt":"2025-07-08T21:59:16","slug":"family-of-murdered-nursing-student-demands-justice-sues-houston-landlord-and-background-check-firm-for-negligence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/49762\/","title":{"rendered":"Family of murdered nursing student demands justice, sues Houston landlord and background check firm for negligence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 The family of a Houston nursing student and social media influencer who was allegedly murdered by her roommate is suing the landlord and background check firm who allowed her to live with a man with a violent past.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>O<\/b><b>UR PREVIOUS REPORT: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/news\/local\/2025\/05\/05\/houston-roommate-charged-in-stabbing-death-of-uk-tiktok-influencer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Houston roommate charged in stabbing death of UK TikTok influencer<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">On April 26, Elizabeth Tamilore Odunsi, a 23-year-old nursing student at Texas Woman\u2019s University known on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@tamidollars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@tamidollars\">TikTok as \u201cTami Dollars,\u201d<\/a> was murdered by her 40-year-old roommate, Christopher Grant.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth Tamilore Odunsi known on TikTok as \u2018Tami Dollars\u2019 (Copyright 2025 by KPRC Click2Houston &#8211; All rights reserved.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Odunsi family and their legal team held a press conference demanding justice and accountability from the landlord and SafeRent Solutions, the background check company, for what they describe as gross negligence that allowed Grant to be placed with Tami.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">SafeRent does background checks for multiple different properties, including For a Place to Live, a company that owns several properties throughout Houston, but mostly in the Third Ward area. <\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Members of the Odunsi family spoke of the devastation they\u2019ve felt since Tami\u2019s life was taken from her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cShe was quite literally at the finishing line, when her life was tragically cut short,\u201d Tami\u2019s sister Georgina said. \u201cShe left us in one of the most painful ways possible: her last words being a cry for help&#8230; no one deserves to go out the way she did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The attorneys claimed that Tami had reported a prior violent incident with Grant to both the landlord and Houston Police, and a meeting with the landlord had been scheduled but was later canceled. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Shortly after, she was murdered in the apartment that was meant to be her safe space.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\"\/><\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">During the press conference, Pradia revealed that he had one of his assistants search for Grant\u2019s information on Google, and a simple search revealed that he had domestic violence convictions in Washington state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cSo, it was just that easy for them to find out what happened and what he was doing prior to him moving in with Tami,\u201d Pradia said. \u201cWe\u2019re here today, just seeking justice for the family&#8230; I don\u2019t know what I would do if something like this happened to my daughter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Grant was arrested on May 2 and charged with Tami\u2019s murder. His trial is ongoing.
