PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 What started as a tragic Valley animal story now has the chance for a happy ending.<\/p>\n
Some of the pups rescued from a hoarding and abusive situation<\/a> at a Phoenix apartment have their forever homes. <\/p>\n Nine dogs were brought into the Arizona Humane Society in desperate need of care. Four of those pups were up for adoption and three of them have new families.<\/p>\n On Dec. 19, police responded to an apartment near Seventh Avenue and Indian School Road<\/a> for reports of animal cruelty. According to police documents and court papers, officers found feces and urine throughout two units, no available drinking water for the animals, and nine underweight dogs with matted fur that were rescued. <\/p>\n They also found two dead dogs inside the apartments and a third dead dog in a city trash can outside.<\/p>\n Police booked 53-year-old John Lewis Kai into the Maricopa County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
