What you\u2019ve observed are workers reinforcing the old pier, site of future <a href=\"https:\/\/www.portofsandiego.org\/projects\/freedom-park-burnham-navy-pier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Freedom Park<\/a>, which is scheduled to open in 2028.<\/p>\n<p>The Navy Pier Freedom Park Structural Pier Reinforcement\u2013as a nearby sign proclaims\u2013is being undertaken by the Port of San Diego and the USS Midway Museum.<\/p>\n<p>The old Navy headhouse on the pier\u2019s east end was <a href=\"https:\/\/coolsandiegosights.com\/2024\/10\/07\/a-pile-of-rubble-near-the-uss-midway-museum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">demolished about a year ago<\/a>. Now the work is to reinforce the pier with concrete by jet grouting along approximately 380 linear feet of retaining wall. What, you ask, is jet grouting? Here\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pressure_grouting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Wikipedia page<\/a> that explains.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.portofsandiego.org\/press-releases\/general-press-releases\/freedom-park-project-enters-next-phase-contract-award-pier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a press release<\/a> from last summer, this reinforcement phase is scheduled to be completed by February 2026.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/img_9318-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-110208\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/img_9356.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-110209\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/img_9389.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-110211\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>To follow my blog, find the \u201cFollow\u201d box in this website\u2019s sidebar.
