That\u2019s the idea behind the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aarp.org\/livable-communities\/community-challenge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">AARP Community Challenge<\/a>, a grant program launched in 2017 to support quick-action projects that enhance livability nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its tenth year, the program is accepting applications through March 4, 2026, at <a class=\"Link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aarp.org\/CommunityChallenge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">aarp.org\/CommunityChallenge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aarp.org\/livable-communities\/community-challenge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">AARP Community Challenge<\/a> is designed to:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Accelerate local ideas<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Encourage innovation<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Overcome policy barriers<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Attract additional funding and support<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s open to 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), 501(c)(6) nonprofit organizations, government entities, and other organizations on a case-by-case basis. All projects must be completed by December 15, 2026.<\/p>\n<p><b>2026 Grant Opportunities<\/b><br \/>AARP is offering three distinct funding tracks to help communities become more livable for people of all ages \u2013 especially those 50 and older.<\/p>\n<p>\u00d8 <b>Flagship Grants<\/b><br \/>Support projects that improve <b>Public Places; Transportation; Housing; Digital Connections; and Disaster Resilience. <\/b>Awards range from a few hundred dollars to $15,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u00d8 <b>Capacity-Building Microgrants<\/b><br \/>$2,500 grants paired with expert support, webinars, and cohort learning. Focus areas include <b>Walk Audits, Bike Audits<\/b>, <b>HomeFit\u00ae Guide Modifications, and<\/b> <b>Disaster Preparedness Training<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00d8 <b>Demonstration Grants<\/b><br \/>Designed to replicate promising local efforts. Topics include <b>Pedestrian Safety (funding support from Toyota Motor North America),<\/b> <b>High-Speed Internet (funding support from Microsoft), and<\/b> <b>Housing Design Competitions<\/b>. Awards typically range from $10,000-$20,000, and will not exceed $25,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to open the AARP Community Challenge grant program once again and encourage all eligible organizations to apply,\u201d said Beth Finkel, AARP New York State Director. \u201cPast grantees have made tangible improvements that spark long-term change in communities across New York.\u201d<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Since 2017, AARP has funded 2,100 projects nationwide, including 63 in New York.<\/p>\n<p><b>About the AARP Community Challenge<\/b><br \/>The grant program is part of AARP\u2019s Livable Communities initiative, which helps neighborhoods, towns, cities, and counties become great places to live for people of all ages.
