For some quick context, Ashley \u2014 who has two young daughters \u2014 detailed being excluded from a friendship group<\/a> of fellow moms in a candid essay for the Cut<\/a> earlier this week.\"Ashley<\/p>\n

She wrote in part, \u201cI remember being left out of a couple of group hangs, and I knew about them because Instagram made sure it fed me every single photo and Instagram Story. Another time, at one of the mom\u2019s dinner parties, I realized where I sat with her \u2014 which was at the end of the table, far from the rest of the women. I was starting to feel frozen out of the group, noticing every way that they seemed to exclude me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ashley also recalled confronting the moms via text, writing, \u201cThis is too high school for me and I don\u2019t want to take part in it anymore.\u201d She recalled, \u201cIt didn\u2019t exactly go over well. Some of the others tried to smooth things over. One sent flowers, then ignored me when I thanked her for them. Another tried to convince me that everyone assumed I\u2019d been invited to gatherings and just hadn\u2019t shown up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be clear, I have never considered the moms to be bad people. (Maybe one.) But I do think our group dynamic stopped being healthy and positive \u2014 for me, anyway,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Several Internet users immediately speculated<\/a> that Ashley was talking about her group of famous celebrity mom friends, which includes Meghan Trainor, Mandy Moore, and Hilary Duff. Eagle-eyed fans even noticed<\/a> that Ashley was no longer following Hilary or Mandy on Instagram.<\/p>\n

A rep for Ashley ended up denying speculation<\/a> that her essay had been about said celebrities. However, Hilary\u2019s husband is still jumping to her defense.\"Matthew<\/p>\n

Taking to his Instagram stories, Matthew parodied Ashley\u2019s the Cut article, sharing a photo of his face photoshopped over hers in her cover shoot. The fake tagline read, \u201cA mom group tell all through a father\u2019s eyes,\u201d and then said, \u201cWhen you\u2019re the most self-obsessed, tone-deaf person on Earth, other moms tend to shift their focus to their actual toddlers.\u201d\"Fake<\/p>\n

Matthew added, \u201cRead my new interview with @thecut.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reacting to Matthew\u2019s \u201cshady\u201d and \u201cmessy\u201d<\/a> post, one person wrote<\/a> of the drama, \u201cWe really are just reliving the early 2000s.\u201d Someone else echoed<\/a>, \u201cMy 2000s self is invested in this.\u201d\"Hilary<\/p>\n

\u201cFor anyone who\u2019s never been in a Facebook mommy group before\u2026this is it,\u201d another user said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the same time, many users raised their eyebrows over Matthew jumping into the conversation. \u201cI mean I hear him and I\u2019m all for protecting your wife\u2026 but like that\u2019s between the women folk my guy,\u201d one tweet<\/a> read, while someone else on Reddit<\/a> questioned, \u201cWhy is the husband responding to this, that feels kind of weird.\u201d<\/p>\n
