{"id":499585,"date":"2026-01-07T19:21:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T19:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/499585\/"},"modified":"2026-01-07T19:21:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T19:21:09","slug":"northeast-florida-unemployment-surges-to-5-1-in-november","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/499585\/","title":{"rendered":"Northeast Florida unemployment surges to 5.1% in November"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"h890526-p1\" class=\"permalinkable\">Jacksonville\u2019s unemployment rate jumped in November to its highest level since the coronavirus pandemic, the Florida Department of Commerce reported Jan. 7.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h890526-p2\" class=\"permalinkable\">The jobless rate in the Jacksonville metropolitan area of Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties rose from 4.3% in September to 5.1% in November.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h890526-p3\" class=\"permalinkable\">Data for October is not available because the monthly survey of households used to determine the unemployment rate was not conducted that month, due to the federal government shutdown.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h890526-p4\" class=\"permalinkable\">The November unemployment rate was the highest in Northeast Florida since January 2021. It was also 5.1% then as the economy was recovering from the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h890526-p5\" class=\"permalinkable\">Clay County\u2019s unemployment rate was 5.2% in November, while the other four counties in the metro area were all at 5.1%.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h890526-p6\" class=\"permalinkable\">Florida\u2019s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose from 3.9% in September to 4.2% in November.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h890526-p7\" class=\"permalinkable\">The Department of Commerce does not adjust data for local areas for seasonal factors in its monthly reports. Without seasonal adjustment, Florida\u2019s statewide jobless rate was at 4.9% in November, closer to the Jacksonville rate.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h890526-p8\" class=\"permalinkable\">While the unemployment rate rose, the agency\u2019s survey of nonfarm businesses showed a pickup in job growth in the Jacksonville area in November.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h890526-p9\" class=\"permalinkable\">Businesses added 10,500 jobs from November 2024 through November 2025, a 1.3% growth rate.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h890526-p10\" class=\"permalinkable\">That\u2019s up from Jacksonville\u2019s September growth rate of 0.9% and also higher than Florida\u2019s statewide growth rate of 0.8% in November.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h890526-p11\" class=\"permalinkable\">Much of the increase in Jacksonville came from the category of private education and health services, which added 9,500 jobs in the 12-month period, a 7% growth rate.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h890526-p12\" class=\"permalinkable\">Other large private sector gains came from the professional, scientific and technical services sector, which added 1,300 jobs, or 2.2%, and the leisure and hospitality sector, which increased by 1,000, or 1.1%.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h890526-p13\" class=\"permalinkable\">Several industry sectors reported job losses in the 12-month period, with the biggest in the category of administrative and support and waste management and remediation services, which fell by 700, or 1.3%.<\/p>\n<p id=\"h890526-p14\" class=\"permalinkable\">The wholesale trade sector fell by 700, or 1.7%, and financial activities declined by 400, or 0.7%.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Jacksonville\u2019s unemployment rate jumped in November to its highest level since the coronavirus pandemic, the Florida Department of&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":499586,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5136],"tags":[5229,3188,723,7310,67,586,132,5230,68,2969],"class_list":{"0":"post-499585","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-jacksonville","8":"tag-america","9":"tag-fl","10":"tag-florida","11":"tag-jacksonville","12":"tag-united-states","13":"tag-united-states-of-america","14":"tag-unitedstates","15":"tag-unitedstatesofamerica","16":"tag-us","17":"tag-usa"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@us\/115855444303104425","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/499585","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=499585"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/499585\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/499586"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=499585"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=499585"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=499585"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
